The Group
Brothers Yohann and Yannick Lopes form the group “Duo Paris Lisbonne”. After a spectacular career debut with their first group Triolopes bringing them worldwide success over a period of 10 years, the two decided to form a new project, Duo Paris-Lisbonne.
Born in France, of two Portuguese parents, the Lopes brothers remain loyal to their roots. They return regularly to the Tras-Os-Montes region of Portugal, where they are much influenced by the history, the tales, the music and the philosophy of it’s inhabitants. Their knowledge of various musical styles and traditions coupled with their closeness, gives us to share what the word saudade means to them.
Duo Paris-Lisbonne’s unique and original formation of accordion, guitar and vocals creates a sound that is both free and unpredictable, creative and poetic virtuosic and simple. Improvisers/arrangers/composers/writers/performers, they navigate constantly between what escapes them and their certainties, thus putting them on their own unique path.
In the form of a musical autobiography on stage, we would hope that by creating this group, we can combine in a single concert all that we wish to express: joy, sadness, nostalgia, bitterness, humour, burlesque.”
Duo Paris-Lisbonne made their official debut on the 7th of February 2008 at the Maison de la Musique at Nanterre, (France) opening for the singer Fado Cristina Branco. There is a Portuguese expression which says “Water has it’s source as a tree has it’s roots”, and the Lopes brothers continue to write their story in memory and dedication of those who enjoy their music.
